As teachers we often have to remind the world that we are not our student’s mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, friends, etc. While technically this is true realistically we become all of this…even if we do not want to admit it.
We are at times our students mothers. We are at times their fathers. We are their Big Brothers or Big Sisters. And yes, when what they need most is shoulder or a pat rather than punishment…we are their friends.
Truth is for most teachers at some point our students stop being our students…and start becoming our kids.
